Ladies and Gentlemen, meet Dragon….

Back story: At Huntington North High School, on one of the first few days of school, Paul was sitting in class while the teacher took role call. When finished the teacher asked if there was anyone that would like to be called anything other than the name he had called out. If there were no changes, the name he called would be the name he used. Paul raised his hand and simply said “Dragon”. The teacher looked at him and asked, “You want to be callled Dragon?” Paul replied, “Yes, Dragon.” Ladies and Gentlemen, meet Dragon:

Fall into Cross Country Season

Fall is slowly creeping in, which means Cross Country Season is upon us.  Joel has a great group of guys.  Exceptionally polite for high schoolers! On Friday nights there is a team dinner that one of the Seniors parents put on for the team. This is the time where I get to talk to the guys more and get to know them. They always keep me laughing.  I enjoy going to their meets and taking pictures of them and watching Joel coach. Here is a picture that I took of some of the varsity guys after the preseason invite at Dekalb. I did a little editing to it as well. MIBThe guys had their first official meet on Saturday at home for the Huntington Invite. They had 4 in the top 10, all 7 were in the top 20, and they placed 1st overall. Here is the Varsity with their trophy. varteamLike I said, the whole team (JV and Varsity) is a great group of guys, and I can’t wait to see what they accomplish this year!(Remember you can click on the pictures to make them larger.)

The weekend of the 15th, we went to Cincinnati to Dog/Cat sit for my Aunt. Friday, we headed to my parents house and had dinner with them, and I sorted through my stuff animals and “junk” I still had at home to put out for a yard sale my sister was having the following day. After that we headed to my aunts house. She has 2 dogs: Zeppelin, who is a Doberman Pinscher…but not at all scary; and Lucky Lady, who I am not sure what kind of dog she is…they found her on the side of the road a few years ago. Then there is Kipper, their cat (who looks a lot like Buster, Joel’s old cat). All three are inside/outside pets, and they could never make up their mind on if they wanted to be out or not. BUT, they were good none the less (: Saturday night Jon and Luke met us at my Aunts and the 4 of us went to the Reds game. They were playing the Nationals, who happens to have my favorite baseball player and former Reds player, Adam Dunn on their team. Needless to say the Reds got rocked and we left early because I was getting angry at them just watching the ball go by. I did however, get to see Dunn hit a home run, even if he does play for the Nationals. We stay at my Aunts the rest of the weekend and had dinner with my parents on the way back to Huntington. It was a great weekend despite the Reds losing.

I had 2 interviews this past week, both for General Ed. Paraprofessionals – which is basically a Teacher Assistant. But I didn’t get either one. At one of the schools the principal said there was nothing I needed to improve on and that he was very pleased with my interview, but they needed someone with more Special Ed. experience. The other one was at a school that I am at the top of their sub list, and I believe/think I didn’t get the job because they wanted to keep me on as a sub. So I will continue to sub and look elsewhere for a job. It’s just not what God has planned for me right now, but it’s still hard to be so close and not get the job.

Hungtington North High School Viking
Just to let you know that, the Journal Gazette, in Fort Wayne, recently published an article on Huntington North High School Vikings Cross Country. This is the team that I help coach, and we hope for a better finish than we had last year, which was a 12th place finish at the statemeet.                        Here is a link to the the news article!

Walley + Jadys

Joel downloaded a new picture program for me, as per Derek’s suggestion, called Picasa 3. I am really enjoying it…especially how it organizes my pictures so nicely for me. Anyway, as I was looking through I found some pictures of Walley (my parent’s/my sister’s dog, for those of you who may not know) that I took. Walley is a Jack Russell Terrier. My sister got him my Freshman year of high school..so he has been apart of our family for 9 or 10 years now. These two pictures are probably my favorite walley walley3Walley loves to play in the water. When someone is watering plants he’s there to bite at the water. When we had our pool, he would attack the hose that was used when cleaning the pool. A few summers ago I was watching Jadys, who is Derek’s dog, while he was driving trucks for TNT. Joel normally watches her for Derek but Joel was gone that weekend and I took her under my wing. Which I might add is always fun ::cough: Derek ::cough: Jadys is a German Shepard/Akita mix, just fyi. During that weekend my dad got out the hose and Walley started playing in the water. Jadys saw this and wanted to join in. Considering Jadys is taller then Walley, Jadys “hogged” the water and Walley didn’t get much to play in. Walley pouted and of course I captured all this on this video…which I also came across while messing with Picasa. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do (:

Honeymoon

parasailingFor our Honeymoon, Joel and I went to Cancun, Mexico.  Our flight was at 6am on Sunday.  Yes, the morning after our Wedding.  From the reception, we headed to the Marriott in Circle Center – downtown Indy.  The drive there was uneventful with a stop at Taco Bell since we barley got a few bites to eat at the reception.  Once we hit down town it was around 1:30am.  Due to the Black Expo, it took 20min or more from the exit to the hotel.  To our  understanding it is normally a 5min min drive.  By the time we checked in and got to our room, which was located right next to the elevators, we tried to get some sleep.  It was so loud and people were going on and off the elevator that I gave up and took a shower before finally falling asleep.  After probably 1.5 hours of sleep, we headed to our friends, The Hudson’s, who graciously drove us to the air port so that we didn’t have to pay for parking.  We got on our first flight with no problems which an hour later landed in Atlanta.  According to our flight info we had about 45min before our next flight took off.  We decided to grab breakfast at McDonalds, and as we took the first bite they made an announcement saying that it was the final boarding call for our flight.  We quickly put our breakfast back into the bag and took off running from gate 1 to gate 36.  Apparently they were boarding the flight early so they could pass out the paperwork that is needed when going into another country.  Luckily we were able to take our breakfast on the plane and eat while they passed out the paperwork before we even took off…the running to the gate with our luggage was not a fun thing, but we were not the only ones that had to do it!

Carlos' N Charlies'
Once we landed in Cancun we went through customs, got our luggage, and found Apple Vacations “booth” where we got transported to our resort – The Riu Caribe.  The water was beautiful and clear and the sun was always shining.  We arrived at the resort before check in, but we were able to change and hang out by the pool until our room was ready.  Once we got our room all we wanted to do was sleep since we barley slept the night before.  The rest of the week we got up put sun screen on had breakfast and spent the day at the pool.  We went to the Ocean a few times, but there was lots of seaweed and everything was up by the pool, and since the pool was great, we stayed there.  The food was great!  The only meal that reapeated itself everyday was breakfast, but we never got sick of it.  On Wednesday, we met a few people that Joel works with at Carlos N’ Charlies for dinner.  It is located down in the hotel zone of Cancun.  It was about a 5min bus ride, but we were told it was only a 5min walk, so we thought well we will just walk there.  It turned out to be a 50min walk, so we took the bus back!  During dinner, they brought Joel and I Whip Cream on a plate with a napkin candle in it, since we were on our honeymoon.  I wasn’t paying attention when they took the plate away and our waiter smashed it in my face.  They made Joel kiss me which made him have whip cream on his face as well.  We really enjoyed the entertainment.

honeymoon_sunsetWe had a wonderful time!  We also went parasailing on our last day there.  Like all vacations, we were sad to leave and come back to Indiana.  The resort and staff were great!  Everyone was happy to help and never left you sitting without something to drink.  I liked how our hotel was down a bit from the Hotel Zone.  I think Joel would have liked to be a little bit closer to see if there was other things to do while we were there.  It was a great Honeymoon!
